COLUMBUS – Vivek Ramaswamy today announced that on his first day as governor, he will launch investigations into every Ohio locality where property taxes have more than doubled since before the pandemic.
Across Ohio, families are watching their property tax bills climb year after year with no end in sight. Seniors on fixed incomes, young families who just bought their first home, and lifelong residents are now asking whether they can afford to stay in their homes.
“I’m going to launch investigations on my first day in office of all localities where property taxes have more than doubled since the pandemic, to understand how taxpayers’ money is actually being spent,” said Vivek. “Property taxes are stealing the property of homeowners and this can’t go on. Ohioans deserve transparency on how their dollars are being spent and how their properties are being appraised and I’m going to give it to them. They won’t get it from Amy Acton who bans recordings at her events and refuses to debate.”
Today’s announcement builds on Vivek’s plan for historic property tax relief, which would roll property taxes back to where they were before the end of the pandemic. Since 2020, property tax collections on Ohio homes and farmland have jumped nearly 45%, and Vivek’s rollback would be the largest in state history, putting real money back in the pockets of homeowners, farmers, and rural communities.
