There’s a simple solution: equity participation for America’s youth.
Suzy Welch’s op-ed “Is Gen Z Unemployable?” (Sept. 25) continues an age-old tradition of lamenting the work ethic of today’s youth,―from 2013’s “entitled” Millennials to 1996’s “slacker” Gen Xers to 1899’s young workers, who were reportedly defined by their “foolish inattention, dowdy indifference, and half-hearted work.” Ms. Welch’s research is rigorous, finding that only 2% of Gen Z holds core values that employers seek, such as hard work and achievement. Gen Z’s response is that “business needs to change.”
